As the world's gaze turns to Brazil for the start of the World cup, here at Vintage Styler we have compiled a list of our top 5 favourite things about Brazil (and as you can imagine they all have a nod to the world of fashion rather than the world of football):
1) The Rio Carnival
Colour. Music. Samba. Feathers. The winning combination of style, tradition and passion has established the Rio Carnival as the world’s premier party! We love how you can see the influences of different generations and even centuries within the carnival costumes including Art Deco, 20s and more recently the 70s and 80s love for vibrancy. Get in the spirit with some brightly toned VS statement jewellery
One of the most influential and recognizable super models of the last 15 years, Gisele has walked for over 20 fashion houses including becoming an iconic Victoria Secret angel. We love Gisele’s relaxed yet classic style, which has helped her secure front covers for Vogue, Harpers Bazar, Vanity Fair and Rolling Stones. More recently Gisele has acted as a United Nations good will ambassador and has undertaken extensive charity work across the globe.
3) Copacabana beach
One of the most legendary and potentially famous beaches in the world, this is the place to be seen and to see! Anything goes; this 3-mile stretch of white sand has it all – theatre performances, sport events, music and food! Make sure you accessories with lots of colour to stand out from the crowd.
4) Sao Paulo
Sao Paulo is one of the up and coming cities for world fashion. The Sao Paulo fashion week is now considered to be the 5th
most important on the international circuit behind only London, Paris, New York and Milan. At this years event we loved Patricia Mottas S/S 15 collection with lots of drop waisted dresses and Alexandre Herchcovitch S/S 15 collection with bold colours and 50’s inspired silhouettes. With some of the most sought after design houses such as Burberry, Gucci and Valentino opening flagship stores, the city is well and truly on the fashion map.
5) The Girl from Ipanema
One our all time favourite songs which we love to play at VS HQ, this song is more than just a musical track, its evokes a era of style and sophistication. Recorded in 1962, the song reached number 5 in the USA but only got to number 29 in the UK charts. The song was inspired by a young girl who lived in the fashionable Ipanema neighbourhood of Rio De Janeiro and who used to stroll past the stylish cafes and bars in the area. The ‘young girl’ was Helo Pinheiro who has become a famous face across Brazil due to her beauty. Channel your inner girl from Ipanema and wander the bars with a 60's style VS clutch
